At last night’s ceremony hosted by Laura Benanti at New York City’s Town Hall, Audra McDonald received the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actress in a Play for her performance as Billie Holiday in Lanie Robertson’s musical play Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill. The award marks Audra’s fifth from the Drama Desk committee and her first in the category of “Outstanding Actress in a Play.” The honor comes on the heels of her Outer Critics Circle Award win for her portrayal of the legendary jazz singer.
