Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill London dates announced!

Audra Lady DayAfter postponing performances of Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Gill because of the bundle of joy that is Sally James McDonald-Swenson (evidenced herehere, and here), Audra McDonald is finally bringing her award-winning performance of Billie Holiday to Wyndham’s Theatre in London for a 14-week run this summer.

Written by Lanie Robertson and directed by Lonny Price, Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill opened at the Circle in the Square theater in 2014 to great acclaim, earning Audra her sixth Tony Award, an Outer Circle Critics Award and a Drama Desk Award.

In addition to her stage performance, Audra can also be seen in the HBO special, filmed live at Cafe Brasil in New Orleans.

Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill opens at Wyndham’s Theatre on June 17, and tickets go on sale February 3. Visit  LadyDayWestEnd.com for more information.

Audra snags SAG and NAACP nominations for HBO’s Lady Day

As announced today Audra Lady Dayin the press, Audra has been nominated two awards for her performance in HBO’s special Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill. The celebrated actress and singer was recognized by the Screen Actors Guild in the category of Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a TV Movie or Miniseries, and was nominated for an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actress in a Television Movie, Limited-Series or Dramatic Special.

Audra first performed the role of Billie Holiday on Broadway in 2014, and later won her sixth Tony Award for the same production.

Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill was filmed live at Café Brasil in New Orleans and aired on HBO in March 2016. Stream Lady Day online and tune in to the SAG Awards on January 29, 2017 and the NAACP Image Awards on February 11, 2017.

President Obama and NEA honor Audra with National Medal of Arts

Audra is recognized by the White House and National Endowment for the Arts for her singular achievements on the stage and screen. Fellow recipients of the distinguished honor include Mel Brooks, Sandra Cisneros, the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center, Morgan Freeman, Philip Glass, Berry Gordy, Santiago Jiménez, Jr., Moises Kaufman, Ralph Lemon, Luis Valdez, and Jack Whitten.

Established by the US Congress in 1984, the National Medal of Arts has been awarded to writers, dancers, choreographers, actors, painters, musicians, and dedicated supporters of the arts for their contributions to the field of arts and humanities in America. President Barack Obama will present the National Medal of Arts and the National Humanities Medal to the 2015 recipients in the East Room of the White House on September 22. The event will be streamed live at www.whitehouse.gov/live.
