Audra McDonald receives Emmy nomination for HBO’s Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill

Screen Shot 2014-04-23 at 5.05.41 PM copyAs announced this morning, Audra McDonald has been nominated for an Emmy Award in the category of Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for portraying Billie Holiday in HBO’s Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill.

Lady Dat at Emerson’s Bar & Grill was filmed before a live audience at Cafe Brasil in New Orleans, recreating the atmosphere of the Broadway production that earned Audra her record-breaking sixth Tony Award in 2014.

Watch Lady Day on HBO and tune in to the 68th Primetime Emmy Awards, airing September 18, 2016, on ABC.

Broadway unites for Orlando

Live from the Beacon Theater: 2016 Tony Awards!

Tony logoThis Sunday, Audra McDonald joins friends and colleagues at the Beacon Theater in New York to celebrate the outstanding work in Broadway theater at the 70th Tony Awards ceremony.

The ceremony includes performances by all nominees for Best Musical, including Audra’s own show, Shuffle Along, or, the Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed.

If you don’t have a ticket to the Tony’s, tune in to CBS this Sunday at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT to watch it live!

Audra shifts gears: Carpool Karaoke on the Late Late Show with James Corden

Broadway-CPK-Group_FullBetween performances of Shuffle Along, or, the Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All that Followed, Audra visits James Corden for a session of his ever-popular Carpool Karaoke segment. Fellow performers Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Jane Krakowski and Lin-Manuel Miranda join the party for a singalong of Broadway’s greatest hits.

The Late Late Show airs Monday June 6 at 12:37 am on CBS.

Big news in Audraland!

Screen Shot 2013-01-25 at 12.30.07 PMBreaking news: Audra regrets that she must postpone her West End debut in Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill, but is thrilled to announce that she and husband Will Swenson are expecting.

As a result, Audra will continue performances of Shuffle Along, or, the Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed through July 24, at which time Grammy-winning singer Rhiannon Giddens will step in as Lottie Gee and choreographer and tap legend Savion Glover will join the cast. Audra will return to Shuffle Along in the winter following her temporary maternity leave.
