Watch Audra McDonald perform live at the White House in “A Celebration of American Creativity”

White HouseOn October 14, Audra McDonald joins President Obama and the First Lady of the United States at the White House for an evening celebrating the American canon, featuring music ranging from hip-hop to jazz standards. “A Celebration of American Creativity: In Performance at the White House,” honors the 50th anniversary of the National Foundation of the Arts and Humanities Act and will be broadcast online and recorded for a feature on PBS.

The evening also includes performances by Buddy Guy, Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, Keb’ Mo’, Smokey Robinson, Trombone Shorty, Esperanza Spalding, Brian Stokes Mitchell, James Taylor, and Usher.

“In Performance at the White House” has showcased American cultural traditions since its inception in 1978, with performances by legendary artists such as Tony Bennett, Bob Dylan, Herbie Hancock, B.B. King, and Vladimir Horowitz.

The six-time Tony winner stars alongside Brian Stokes Mitchell, Billy Porter, Brandon Victor Dixon, and Joshua Henry in this revival production of the 1921 musical. Pruduced by Scott Rudin, Shuffle Along also reunites George C. Wolfe and Savion Glover, the award-winning creators of Bring in ‘da Noise, Bring in ‘da Funk.

Previews of Shuffle Along begin March 15, 2016 at the Music Box Theatre, with the Broadway opening set for April 28.

Live from Lincoln Center’s “Sweeney Todd” wins Emmy Award

Live from Lincoln CenterLive From Lincoln Center‘s telecast of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street has won the Creative Arts Emmy Award for Outstanding Special Class Program. As the official host of the PBS series, Audra shares the award with the show’s producers.

Starring Emma Thompson as Mrs. Lovett and Bryn Terfel as the title character, Stephen Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd aired nationally on PBS on September 26, 2014. The production was directed by Lonny Price and featured the New York Philharmonic under the baton of Alan Gilbert.

Audra has served as the official host of Live From Lincoln Center since 2012. Sweeney Todd marks her fourth Emmy nomination and first win.

Audra McDonald kicks off fall 2015 concert tour with American Classics at the Hollywood Bowl

Bramwell Tovey leads the Los Angeles Philharmonic in program of Bernstein, Rogers and Hammerstein, and other American favorites that also features a performance by the talented dancers of the American Ballet Theatre. Continuing her North American tour, the six-time Tony winner performs at the Gallo Center for the Arts in Modesto, California on September 5. Following two concerts with the Minnesota Orchestra (Sept 10, 11), Audra can be seen in at the University Musical Society in Ann Arbor, Michigan (Sept 17), with the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra (Sept 19), in Kansas City for the Harriman-Jewell Series (Sept 26). October highlights include concerts at the Jorgensen Center for the Performing arts in Storrs, Connecticut (Oct 8), at the Peace Center for the Performing Arts in Greenville, South Carolina (Oct 13), and the Broadway Center for the Performing Arts (Oct 25).

Audra completes her fall tour with a series of concerts in Australia, visiting Melbourne and Sydney from October 31 to November 7.

To further encourage people to give, for those who donate at the $2,250 level, Audra will not only meet you and a guest for hot chocolate at Sardi’s, but will also give a personal tour of Covenant House and a short private performance before she sleeps out.

Audra Ricki and the FlashAudra McDonald stars opposite Meryl Streep and Kevin Kline in Jonathan Demme’s new film Ricki and the Flash, in theaters today. The comedy-drama follows fading rockstar Ricki Randazzo (Streep) as she tries to mend the relationship with her estranged family, dealing with the consequences of her pursuit of stardom. Audra plays the role of the new wife to Pete (Kline), Maureen, the steadfast foil to Ricki’s impulsive character.
