President Obama and NEA honor Audra with National Medal of Arts

Screen Shot 2016-09-14 at 6.22.30 PMThis September, Audra McDonald joins luminaries and patrons of the American arts as an honoree of the 2015 National Medal of Arts. Audra is recognized by the White House and National Endowment for the Arts for her singular achievements on the stage and screen. Fellow recipients of the distinguished honor include Mel Brooks, Sandra Cisneros, the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center, Morgan Freeman, Philip Glass, Berry Gordy, Santiago Jiménez, Jr., Moises Kaufman, Ralph Lemon, Luis Valdez, and Jack Whitten.

Established by the US Congress in 1984, the National Medal of Arts has been awarded to writers, dancers, choreographers, actors, painters, musicians, and dedicated supporters of the arts for their contributions to the field of arts and humanities in America. President Barack Obama will present the National Medal of Arts and the National Humanities Medal to the 2015 recipients in the East Room of the White House on September 22. The event will be streamed live at www.whitehouse.gov/live.

Audra McDonald receives Emmy nomination for HBO’s Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill

Screen Shot 2014-04-23 at 5.05.41 PM copyAs announced this morning, Audra McDonald has been nominated for an Emmy Award in the category of Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for portraying Billie Holiday in HBO’s Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill.

Lady Dat at Emerson’s Bar & Grill was filmed before a live audience at Cafe Brasil in New Orleans, recreating the atmosphere of the Broadway production that earned Audra her record-breaking sixth Tony Award in 2014.

Watch Lady Day on HBO and tune in to the 68th Primetime Emmy Awards, airing September 18, 2016, on ABC.

New York Times ‘Table for Three’ with Audra McDonald and Zachary Quinto

Broadway unites for Orlando

Live from the Beacon Theater: 2016 Tony Awards!

Tony logoThis Sunday, Audra McDonald joins friends and colleagues at the Beacon Theater in New York to celebrate the outstanding work in Broadway theater at the 70th Tony Awards ceremony.

The ceremony includes performances by all nominees for Best Musical, including Audra’s own show, Shuffle Along, or, the Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed.

Audra shifts gears: Carpool Karaoke on the Late Late Show with James Corden
